Hojas Blancas Recital Series
24 August 2020 | SVIMF Latest News

This August we celebrate and honor our neighbors living in nursing homes or isolating at their own residences. Erick Ramos (SV Scholar and Mentor) created the Hojas Blancas Recital series after seeing a great need for socialization amongst his elderly community, and what an amazing opportunity it is for us all to connect with our neighbors through live music!
Inspired by the Peruvian holiday “El Dia de los Adultos Mayores,” Erick designed the project to be replicated across the world. Volunteers from SVIMF will be initiating their own recital in their subsequent communities, but all under the same name, Hojas Blancas. General guidelines for communication safety and sanitation practice were created, all of which can be adjusted slightly depending on the health status of the particular community and its location. Variations of a traditional recital were also offered as alternatives, such as playing outside in parking lots, outside of windows, pre-recorded material, customized messages and performance, and visiting the front yards of private residences.
Having the opportunity to promote the ideals and the passion of a student serves as a bridge of what SVIMF promotes as a mission for education, strengthening the enrichment of communities and society with the power of classical music. By using music to connect the deepest essence of humanity, we lead by example for future generations to follow.
